Alex’s background is in ultrafast spectroscopy, initially for investigating the photophysics of polymer-fullerene photovoltaics (PhD from Victoria University of Wellington in 2015). Since then, he has been at CNST in Milan, as part of the international push to develop the emerging field of metal-halide perovskite semiconductors, with a focus on understanding and mitigating photoinstabilities in these materials.
In late 2018, Alex was as a visiting scholar at the group of Xiaoyang Zhu at Columbia University, who excel in time-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Following this experience, he is excited to be back in Milan, developing the photoemission microscopy facility at the heart of the SOPHY project.
